Tesla’s fastest sport sedan battles a fourth-generation Chevy Camaro Z28 in an epic 1/8 mile drag race at Bradenton Motorsports Park.

On Tesla Plaid Channel on YouTube, a gutted Tesla Model S Plaid takes on a 4th generation Chevrolet Camaro Z28 in a 1/8 mile drag race at Bradenton Motorsports Park. The Tesla is one of the fastest EVs on sale today so the Camaro has its work cut out for it. Check out the video on YouTube to see this powerful muscle car go against a really fast electric sedan.

EV vs LSX

The Chevrolet Camaro Z28 has a naturally aspirated LSX V8 engine and on its own is a powerful car. However, the electric motor in the Tesla gives it an edge in this short drag strip battle as they plan to only get a 1/8 mile time comparison. The driver of the Tesla gets into launch control and off the line, the Tesla has a reaction time of 0.049 against a time of -0.004 for the Camaro Z28. The race is close from the starting point to the 1/8 mile cone marker which multiple camera views and angles reveal was a close call. Ultimately, the Tesla beats the Camaro to the 1/8 mile marker by a close margin.

The Camaro Z28 delivers a time of 10.36 seconds at a top speed of 94 mph to the quarter-mile. Again with this race, multiple different shots and camera views show the race from multiple angles both inside and out of the car. The varying types of camera footage provide a detailed impression of the race and how both cars perform.

After the battle with the Camaro Z28 concludes, the driver of the Tesla Plaid takes on another Tesla Plaid but this one is in white. They do a race to the 1/4 mile and again record reaction times at the start of the race. The first Tesla has a reaction time of 0.065 while the white Tesla has a reaction time of 0.226. It’s a close race down the length of the strip, with both Teslas proving to be competitive with one another. Ultimately, the gutted Tesla is again victorious with a finish time of 9.26 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph against the white Tesla’s time of 9.39 seconds and a top speed of 148 mph. The Tesla vs Tesla race shows a greater level of consistency between the two cars with one barely faster than the other due to a lightened interior.
